Alem Oner has released a soundtrack EP for the Kazakh drama Joqtau. The 5-track EP features the film’s original music composed by Sanzhar Baiterekov. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download here, where you can also check out the track list. Also listen to the composer’s title track below. Joqtau is written and directed by Aruan Anartayev and stars Yermek Shynbolatov, Irina Balkova, Isbek Abilmazhinov, Rakhilyam Mashurova, Aydos Auesbayev and Alibek Anartayev. The movie tells the story of a young scientist who – accompanied by his girlfriend – returns home after a seven-year absence and gets invited to join his grandfather on a journey to his ancestral homeland deep inland, where they must confront the challenge of acceptance and understanding. The drama premiered at last year’s Locarno Film Festival and screened at numerous other film festivals over the last year. No word yet on a domestic distribution deal.
