National Geographic Documentary Films announced today that Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Ozark, The Outsider, The Gift, The Staircase, EnemyBoy Erased) have written the original score for the upcoming documentary The Mission. The film is directed by Amanda McBaine & Jesse Moss (Boys State) and centers on the shocking 2018 event, when a young American missionary, John Chau, was killed by arrows while attempting to contact one of the world’s most isolated Indigenous peoples on remote North Sentinel Island. Lightbox’s Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man, Man on Wire) & Jonathan Chinn (Whitney, The Princess) are producing the project with Will Cohen (Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, Divide and Conquer). Bensi & Jurriaans have previously scored Lightbox’s documentaries LA 92, Tina and Torn. The Mission is premiering today at the Telluride Film Festival and is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on October 13, 2023 by Picturehouse.

Bensi’s & Jurriaans’ other recent projects include the FX limited series A Murder at the End of the World, which was originally set to debut this week and has been pushed back for a new premiere date on November 14, 2023.
