Emmy®-nominated composer Joy Ngiaw is set to release her original motion picture score for Solo Mio, the upcoming theatrical romantic comedy starring Kevin James. The soundtrack will be released digitally on Friday, February 6th alongside the film’s rollout, marking a major creative milestone for Ngiaw as she expands her celebrated career beyond animation into live-action storytelling.
Solo Mio represents a deliberate creative pivot for Ngiaw, who has crafted several epic soundscapes across a variety of Skydance Animation projects, including Apple TV’s WondLa, for which she is currently nominated for a Children & Family Emmy Award. The expansive orchestral score was featured in IndieWire’s “Best TV Scores of the Year” alongside The White Lotus and Severance, In contrast, Ngiaw’s work on Solo Mio is intimate and character-driven, drawing on nostalgic, bittersweet Italian influences. Featuring lush strings, guitar, mandolin, and Ngiaw’s signature vocal textures, the music underscores the film’s emotional heart with warmth, restraint, and melodic sincerity.
“From the first time I saw the film, I was deeply moved by Kevin James’s heartfelt performance,” says Ngiaw. “The directors Chuck and Dan wanted the score to be nostalgic, timeless, and bittersweet — a quieter, more intimate world than the large-scale fantastical stories I’ve been living in. It was creatively fulfilling in a whole new way.”
The release comes on the heels of not only Ngiaw’s recent Emmy nomination for WondLa, but also her selection as a 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough Artist. Ngiaw was also featured in Apple Southeast Asia Here’s to the Dreamers campaign in 2025, continuing to build a distinctive, globally resonant voice across both animation and live-action projects.
