Klaus Doldinger (1936-2025)

Klaus Doldinger passed away this past Thursday at age 89 in Munich, Germany. The jazz musician, composer and arranger wrote numerous scores for film and television between the late 1960s and the late 2010s. His best known feature scoring credits include Wolfgang Petersen’s Academy Award-nominated 1981 submarine war epic Das Boot, Petersen’s 1984 fantasy adventure The NeverEnding Story, Andrew Berkin’s 1992 romantic drama Salt on Our Skin and Volker Schlöndorff’s 1998 thriller Palmetto. He also wrote the theme for the long-running German hit series Tatort. He was also the founder of the jazz fusion band Passport whose recordings have included Cross Collateral, Infinity Machine and Iguacu. Doldinger is survived by his wife Inge and three children.
