Polish pianist, singer and composer Hania Rani (The Lost Flower of Alice Hart, Rosalie, I Never CrySubuk) is making her English language feature scoring debut on the upcoming Finnish/British drama The Summer Book. The film is directed by Charlie McDowell (The Discovery, The One I Love) and stars Glenn Close, Emily Matthews and Anders Danielsen Lie. The movie is based on Tove Jansson’s novel of the same title and follows a young girl who – in the wake of her mother’s death – spends a summer on an island off the gulf of Finland with her grandmother and father. Robert Jones (Murder) wrote the screenplay. McDowell is also producing the project with Alex Orlovsky (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) for Case Study Films, alongside Kath Mattock (Adult Material) for Stille Productions, Kevin Loader (The Death of Stalin, In the Loop) for Free Range Films, Duncan Montgomery (His Three Daughters, Freeheld) for High Frequency Entertainment and Aleksi Bardy (Tom of Finland, Tove) for Helsinki Film. The Summer Book will premiere next month at the 2024 BFI London Film Festival.
