Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front, Lion, Hotel Mumbai, Adrift, One Life, The Old Guard, Patrick Melrose, Ammonite) has been hired to score the upcoming Peacock/Sky original series The Day of the Jackal. The show is developed by Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies, Top Boy) based on the novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth novel the 1973 film adaptation (scored by Georges Delerue) and stars Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, Úrsula Corberó, Richard Dormer, Lia Williams, Chukwudi Iwuji, Charles Dance, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura,Nick Blood, Jonjo O’Neill, Sule Rimi and Florisa Kamara. The thriller follows the titular lone assassin as he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who starts to track down the Jackal in a cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. Bennett & Redmayne are also executive producing the Carnival Films production with Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant (Downton Abbey, The Last Kingdom), Sam Hoyle (Mary & George), Sue Naegle (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Pam & Tommy), as well as Brian Kirk (21 Bridges, Citadel) who also directed multiple episodes. Bertelmann has previously collaborated with Bennett on the 2017 limited series Gunpowder. The Day of the Jackal will premiere on November 7, 2024 in the U.S. on Peacock and in the UK on Sky.
Bertelmann’s other upcoming projects include Rupert Sanders’ The Crow (to be released in theaters nationwide on August 23 by Lionsgate), Edward Berger’s Conclave (to be released in select theaters on November 1 by Focus Features) and HBO’s Dune: The Prophecy (to premiere this November on HBO and Max).
