Machel Projects will release a soundtrack album for the HBO original documentary Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project. The album features the film’s original music composed by Samora Pinderhughes (Whose Streets?) & Chris Pattishall (The Strike). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, June 7 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Also listen to several tracks after the jump. Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project is directed by Joe Brewster & Michèle Stephenson and reveals the enduring influence of Nikki Giovanni, one of America’s greatest living poets and social commentators. The movie, which was shortlisted in the Feature Documentary for this year’s Academy Awards, follows Giovanni as he reckons with the inevitable passing of time through intimate vérité and archival footage, revealing the lasting impact of Giovanni’s work on American culture. The documentary, which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, was released in select theaters last November before making its debut on HBO and Max this past January.
