This week, Batu Sener (The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, Ice Age: Scrat Tales) has been recording his score for the upcoming family adventure Harold and the Purple Crayon. The film marks the live-action directorial debut of Carlos Saldanha (Rio, Ice Age: The Meltdown) and stars Zachary Levi, Zooey Deschanel, Lil Rel Howery, Ravi Patel, Camille Guaty, Pete Gardner and Tanya Reynolds. The movie is based on Crockett Johnson’s 1955 children’s book of the same name and tells the story of a curious four-year-old who – with his purple crayon – has the power to create a world of his own. David Guion & Michael Handelman (Dinner for Schmucks, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) wrote the screenplay. John Davis (Predator, Jungle Cruise) is producing the project. Sener has previously served as the score producer of (and provided additional music for) Saldanha’s last feature Ferdinand, which was scored by John Powell who composed the music for all of the filmmaker’s animated movies. Harold and the Purple Crayon is set to be released in theaters nationwide on June 30, 2023 by Sony Pictures.
Sener’s other upcoming projects include the Turkish Disney+ series Atatürk, which is also expected to premiere this year.
