Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Shirley, The Assistant, The Lie, Palmer, Come Sunday) has been hired to score the upcoming sports drama Flint Strong. The film marks the directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Black Panther) and stars Ryan Destiny, Oluniké Adeliyi, Brian Tyree Henry and De’Adre Aziza. The movie is based on the 2015 documentary T-Rex by Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper and tells the true story of Claressa Shields, a Flint, Michigan native whose dreams of becoming the first woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing came to fruition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) wrote the screenplay the screenplay and is also producing the MGM production with Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Moneyball) and Eisha Holmes. Flint Strong is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2023.
