Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the animated feature Minions: The Rise of Gru directed by Kyle Balda and starring Steve Carell, Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Julie Andrews and Alan Arkin. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie, Smallfoot, The Smurfs). Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists such as Diana Ross ft. Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Mr. Malcolm’s List directed by Emma Holly Jones and starring Freida Pinto, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Zawe Ashton, Ashley Park and Theo James. Amelia Warner (Mary Shelley, Wild Mountain Thyme, Mum’s List) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters is the drama The Forgiven written and directed by John Michael McDonagh and starring Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Chastain, Matt Smith, Caleb Landry Jones, Ismael Kanater, Abbey Lee, Saïd Taghmaoui and Christopher Abbott. The film’s original music is composed by Lorne Balfe (Black Widow, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Top Gun: Maverick, Bad Boys for Life, His Dark Materials, The Lego Batman Movie). Landry, an unconventional prep school in Louisiana that national attention for sending its graduates to elite universities. The movie premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released by Greenwich Entertainment.
Opening exclusively at New York’s Paris Theatre today before premiering on Netflix on July 15 is the period romantic comedy drama Persuasion directed by Carrie Cracknell and starring Dakota Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Richard E. Grant and Henry Golding. The film’s original music is composed by Stuart Earl (And Then There Were None, My Brother the Devil, Rillington Place, The Accident, Ordeal by Innocence, Angela Black).
