Jon Ekstrand has signed on to score the upcoming biographical drama Hilma. The film is written and directed by Hallström (The Cider House Rules, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) and stars Lena Olin, Tora Hallström, Lily Cole, Rebecca Calder, Maeve Dermody and Catherine Chalk. The movie explores the life of Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint who navigated through a male-dominated artistic scene to eventually become one of the Western world’s first abstract artists. Helena Danielsson (The Childhood of a Leader, Beyond) is producing the NENT Studios production. Hilma is set to premiere overseas in late 2022 on Viaplay. No word yet on a domestic distribution deal.
Also coming up for Ekstrand is Daniel Espinosa’s Morbius (to be released in theaters on April) and Janus Metz’s All the Old Knives (to be released in select theaters and on Amazon Prime this April). He is also attached to score Espinosa’s Madame Luna, which is set to shoot this year.
