Marilyn Bergman (1928-2022)

Marilyn Bergman has passed away today at her home in Los Angeles. She was 93. Together with her husband Alan, the songwriter/lyricist wrote dozens of songs for film and television and won three Academy Awards for the songs The Way We Were from Sydney Pollack’s movie of the same title, The Windmills of Your Mind from Norman Jewison’s The Thomas Crown Affair, as well as the (song) score from 1983’s Yentl. Among her 16 Oscar nominations also were songs for Tootsie, Sydney Pollack’s Sabrina, Shirley Valentine, Yes, Giorgio, Best Friends, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, The Happy Ending, Same Time, Next Year and The Promise. She also received multiple Grammy and Emmy Awards and nominations. Among her regular collaborators were composers John Williams, Quincy Jones, Marvin Hamlisch, Michel Legrand, James Newton Howard and Dave Grusin. Bergman is survived by her husband, a daughter and granddaughter.
