Jon Ekstrand and Rebekka Karijord are reuniting to co-score the upcoming thriller All the Old Knives. The film is directed by Janus Metz (ZeroZeroZero, Armadillo) and stars Chris Pine, Thandiwe Newton, Jonathan Pryce and Laurence Fishburne. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Olen Steinhauer (Berlin Station) and revolves around two ex-lovers – one a CIA spy, the other an ex-spy – who meet over dinner to reminisce on their time together at Vienna station, when their conversation moves to the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127. Steinhauer also wrote the screenplay. Steve Schwartz & Paula Mae Schwartz (The Road, The Counselor) are producing the project for Chockstone Pictures, alongside Nick Wechsler (The Player, Magic Mike) and Matt Jackson (The Trial of the Chicago 7, End of Watch). Ekstrand has previously collaborated with Metz on 2017’s Borg vs. McEnroe. Kill. All the Old Knives will premiere in 2022 on Amazon Prime and is also expected to receive a limited theatrical release.
Ekstrand (Life, Easy Money, Child 44, Queen of Hearts) and Karijord have previously co-scored last year’s feature documentary I Am Greta and this year’s HBO docuseries Pray, Obey. Ekstrand also has Daniel Espinosa’s Morbius (to be released on January 28, 2022) coming up. He also recently scored the Danish drama Margrete – Queen of the North, which will be coming out in select U.S. theaters and on VOD on December 17 by Samuel Goldwyn Films.
