Deadline is reporting that Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange) (Queen & Slim, We Are Who We Are, Palo Alto, Mainstream, In Treatment) has signed on to score the upcoming HBO Max original series Rap Sh*t. The show is created by Issa Rae (Insecure) and stars Aida Osman, KaMillion, Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell and RJ Cyler. The comedy follows two estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap group. Rae is also executive producing the Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment production with Montrel McKay, Dave Becky (Master of None, Russian Doll), Jonathan Berry, Deniese Davi, as well as Syreeta Singleton who also serves as the project’s showrunner. Rap Sh*t is expected to premiere in 2022 on HBO Max.
Hynes’ other recent projects also include Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut Passing, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released in select theaters on October 27 before premiering on Netflix on November 10.
