French singer/songwriter Matthieu Chedid is attached to compose the score for the upcoming live-action family comedy Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom. The film will be directed by Guillaume Canet (Little White Lies, Nous finirons ensemble) who also stars as Asterix, alongside Gilles Lellouche as Obelix, Vincent Cassel as Cesar, Marion Cotillard as Cleopatra and Jonathan Cohen as Finalthesis. Other cast members include Ramzy Bedia, Linh-Dan Pham, Julie Chen, Pierre Richard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Philippe Mechelen (I Do: How to Get Married and Stay Single) and Julien Hervé wrote the screenplay based on the comic books created by René Goscinny & Albert Uderzo (Looking for Teddy). The project is produced by Trésor Films, Pathé Films and Les Enfants Terribles. Chedid has previously scored Canet’s 2006 feature Tell No One. His other scoring credits include the animated feature A Monster in Paris, Philippe Godeau’s Yao and the comedy Baby Bump(s). Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom will to start production next week. A theatrical release in France and other European markets is set for 2022. (Deadline)
