The Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 56th Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing. For the past few years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. In the Motion Pictures – Live Action category, the scoring mixers honored include Tyson Lozensky for James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari (scored by Marco Beltrami & Buck Sanders) and Daniel Kresco for Todd Phillips’ Joker (music by Hildur Gudnadottir).In the Motion Pictures – Animated category, the nominated scoring mixers are Nick Wollage for DreamWorks Animation’s Abominable (scored by Rupert Gregson-Williams), Greg Hayes for Disney’s Frozen II (music by Christophe Beck), Alan Meyerson for Disney’s The Lion King (scored by Hans Zimmer) and David Boucher for Pixar’s Toy Story 4 (music by Randy Newman). In the Motion Picture – Documentary category, Dan Blanck received a nomination for mixing Allyson Newman’s score for Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound. In the Television Series – 1 Hour category, scoring mixer Jimmy Robertson was recognized for his work on the second 5 episode Mr. Jones of Peaky Blinders (scored by Anna Calvi), Hector Carlos Ramirez for the season 3 episode The Battle of Starcourt of Netflix’s Stranger Things and Adam Taylor was nominated for his own score mix for the The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3 episode Heroic. In the Television Series – 1/2 Hour category, composer Scott Sheppard was recognized for his scoring mix for the seventh episode of the seventh and final season of HBO’s Veep (scored by David Schwartz). In the Television Movie or Limited Series category, Biff Dawes received a nomination for his work on the Season 3 episode The Great War and Modern Memory of HBO’s True Detective (scored by T Bone Burnett & Keefus Ciancia).
