Academy Award winner Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Darkest Hour, Bumblebee, Anna Karenina) is composing the original music for the upcoming fantasy drama The Secret Garden. The film is directed by Marc Munden (Utopia, The Mark of Cain) and stars Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Dixie Egerickx, Edan Hayhurst, Amir Wilson and Isis Davis. The movie is based on the children’s novel of the same title by Frances Hodgson Burnett and follows a 10-year-old orphan who is sent from India to live with her reclusive uncle and his strict housekeeper in an eerie mansion, where finds a hidden garden and bonds with local boy, sick cousin and a stray dog over a shared fantasy world. Jack Thorne (Wonder, The Aeronauts) wrote the screenplay. David Heyman (Harry Potter series, Gravity) is producing the project with Rosie Alison (Testament of Youth). Marianelli has previously scored Paddington 2 for the producers. The Secret Garden is expected to be released in 2020 and will be distributed in the U.S. by STX Entertainment.
As previously reported, Marianelli also has Matteo Garrone’s Pinocchio coming up.
