Tamar-kali (Mudbound, Come Sunday) has composed the original score for the upcoming drama The Assistant. The film is written and directed by Kitty Green (Casting JonBenet) and stars Julia Garner, Matthew Macfadyen, Kristine Froseth, Makenzie Leigh, Noah Robbins, Jon Orsini, Dagmara Domińczyk, Juliana Canfield and Purva Bedi. The movie a centers on a recent college grad and hopeful producer who landed a dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul in a New York City production office and soon stars to encounter various moments of abuse and degradations. James Schamus (Brokeback Mountain, The Ice Storm), Scott Macaulay (Off the Black) and Jen Dana (Brigsby Bear, The Art of Getting By) are producing the Symbolic Exchange production. The Assistant will premiere this weekend at the 2019 Tellride Film Festival.
As previously reported, the composer also has Dee Rees’ Netflix original movie The Last Thing He Wanted starring Anne Hathaway & Ben Affleck and Josephine Decker’s Shirley starring Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg & Logan Lerman coming up.
