Composer Jed Kurzel (Alien: Covenant, The Babadook, Assassin’s Creed, Overlord) is reteaming with director Justin Kurzel on the upcoming western The True History of the Kelly Gang. The film stars George MacKay, Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam, Essie Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Sean Keenan, Harry Greenwood and Earl Cave. The movie based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name and centers on notorious bushranger Ned Kelly, one of the world’s greatest outlaws, and the colonial badlands from which he rose. Shaun Grant (Berlin Syndrome) wrote the screenplay. Justin Kurzel is also producing the project with Porchlight Films’ Liz Watts (Animal Kingdom, The Rover), Daybreak Pictures’ Hal Vogel (Endgame) and Paul Ranford. Jed Kurzel has previously scored the director’s previous two features The Snowtown Murders and Macbeth. The True History of the Kelly Gang is expected to premiere at one of the major film festivals later this year.
Kürzel also recently scored the Matthias Schoenaerts-starring drama The Mustang, which is currently playing in limited release.
