Lesley Barber (Manchester by the Sea, You Can Count On Me, Mansfield Park) has been tapped to score the upcoming drama American Woman. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Semi Chellas (Ophelia, Mad Men) and stars Hong Chau, Sarah Gadon, John Gallagher Jr., Lola Kirke and Ellen Burstyn. The movie tells the story of the women who cared for kidnapped newspaper heiress-turned-fugitive Patty Hearst. Chellas also wrote the screenplay and is also producing the project with Christina Piovesan (The Whistleblower, Regression). American Woman is expected to premiere later this year.
Barber also has the comedy Late Night starring Emma Thompson, Mindy Kaling, John Lithgow & Amy Ryan coming up. The movie will premiere later this month at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
