Herdís Stefánsdóttir has been hired to score the upcoming romantic drama The Sun Is Also a Star. The film is directed by Ry Russo-Young (Before I Fall, Nobody Walks) and stars Yara Shahidi, Charles Melton, Cathy Shim and Miriam A. Hyman. The movie is based on the bestselling YA novel by Nicola Yoon (Everything, Everything) and centers on a girl in New York City whose pragmatism is challenged when she falls in love right before her family is set to be deported back to Jamaica. Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Barbershop: The Next Cut) wrote the screenplay. Alloy Entertainment’s Elysa Koplovitz Dutton (Everything, Everything, Idiocracy) & Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries, The 100) are producing the Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Metro Goldwyn Mayer production. Stefánsdóttir has previously scored numerous shorts and the indie feature South Mountain. The Sun Is Also a Star marks her first major studio scoring assignment. The movie is set to be released in theaters nationwide on May 17, 2019.
