The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 928 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year are a number of film composers, including Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, Ocean’s 8), Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka who received their first Academy Award nomination last year for Lion, Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Foxcatcher), Eric Serra (The Fifth Element, Goldeneye), Jeff Beal (Pollock, An Inconvenient Sequel), Trevor Morris (Olympus Has Fallen, Immortals), Benoit Charest who received an Oscar nomination for The Triplets of Belleville, Fil Eisler (Life of the Party, How to Be Single), Lisa Coleman & Wendy Melvoin (Dangerous Minds), Emilio Kauderer (The Secret in Their Eyes), Jeff Rona (White Squall), Carlo Siliotto (The Punisher), Oswaldo Golijov (The Man Who Cried), Mandy Hoffman (The Lovers), Nitin Sawhney (Breathe), Jason Moran (Selma), Joanna Bruzdowicz (I Forgot to Tell You), Gingger Shankar (Circumstance), Nathan Wang (Rumble in the Bronx), Sharon Farber (When Nietzsche Wept), Lee Byung-woo (Mother), Joseph Koo (A Better Tomorrow), Yoko Kanno (Our Little Sister), Usha Khanna (Khandala House), Sofia Gubaidulina (Mary Queen of Scots), Sneha Khanwalkar (Gangs of Wasseypur), Ilona Sekacz (Wondrous Oblivion) and Lim Giong (The Assassin).
Also invited were songwriters Melissa Etheridge (An Inconvenient Truth), Kendrick Lamar (Black Panther), Sufjan Stevens (Call Me By Your Name), Amir Khalib “Questlove” Thompson (Detroit), Ester Dean & Carlinhos Brown (Rio) and Carlton Douglas “Chuck D” Ridehour (Do the Right Thing), as well as music editors Joe Bonn (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Ted Caplan (The Greatest Showman), Stephanie Lowry (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Jen Monnar (500 Days of Summer), Melissa Muik (Wonder Woman), Stephen A. Saltzman (The Revenant) and Jeanette Surga (Avengers: Age of Ultron).
