John Debney is composing the underscore for the movie musical The Greatest Showman. The film is directed by Michael Gracey and stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya. The movie is inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum and revolves around a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. As previously announced, Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen) have written the original songs for the musical. Jenny Bicks (What a Girl Wants) and Bill Condon (Beauty and the Beast, Dreamgirls) wrote the screenplay. Laurence Mark (I, Robot, Jerry Maguire), Peter Chernin (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion) and Jenno Topping (Hidden Figures, Spy) are producing the project. Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Iron Man 2) also has the romantic comedy Home Again coming up. The film is written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and stars Reese Witherspoon, Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, Michael Sheen, Candice Bergen and Lake Bell. The movie follows a recently separated mother of two whose new life in Los Angeles is overturned when she decides to take in three young, charismatic guys who become part of her unconventional family. Nancy Meyers (What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give) is producing the project. The comedy will be released on September 8, 2017 by Open Road Films.
