The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 774 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists this year a number of film composers, including this year’s winner in the Best Original Score and Song category, Justin Hurwitz (La La Land), Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby), Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Nocturnal Animals), Nicholas Britell (The Big Short) who received his first Oscar nomination this year for Moonlight, Angelo Badalamenti (Blue Velvet, Lost Highway), Benjamin Wallfisch (Hidden Figures, A Cure for Wellness), Nick Cave & Warren Ellis (Hell or High Water, The Proposition), Mica Levi (Under the Skin) who was nominated for the first time this year for her score to Jackie, Atli Orvarsson (Vantage Point, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Jocelyn Pook (The Merchant of Venice), Laurent Perez Del Mar (The Red Turtle), Debbie Wiseman (Wilde), Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator, Whale Rider), Laura Rossi (Unfinished Song), Philip Sheppard (Love, Marilyn), David Amrad (The Manchurian Candidate), Mark Adler (Merchants of Doubt), Stephen James Taylor (Southside with You) and Edesio Alejandro (Havana Suite). Also invited were songwriters Lin-Manuel Miranda who received an Academy Award nomination this year for a song from Moana, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (Poetic Justice), as well as Benj Pasek & Justin Paul who won the Academy Award in the original song category for the lyrics to City of Stars from La La Land. Among the music editors invited to join the Academy this year are Todd Kasow (No Country for Old Men, Fargo), Jordan Corngold (Bridge of Spies, War Dogs) and Nancy Allen (Black Swan, Limitless).
