John Paesano has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim 2. The film is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) and stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tiang, Cailee Spaeny, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Zhang Jin, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying and Qian Yong Chen. No plot details have been revealed yet. Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni (Godzilla, The Great Wall, Warcraft) and Mary Parent (The Revenant) are producing the Legendary Entertainment production with Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) who helmed the original film, as well as Boyega & Femi Oguns for their Upper Room production company. Ramin Djawadi previously scored the 2013 original film. Paesano has previously collaborated with DeKnight on the Netflix series Daredevil. Pacific Rim 2 is set to be released on February 23, 2018 by Universal Pictures.
Paesano (The Maze Runner, When the Game Stands Tall, Almost Christmas) also has the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me coming up. The composer also scored by the drama Same Kind of Different as Me starring Renee Zellweger & Greg Kinnear, which will be released on October 20, 2017 by Pure Flix Entertainment.
Well, that’s a big damn bummer. Djawadi’s score was one of my absolute favorite elements of the first one, I really hope Paesano keeps the same feel going for Maelstrom.
First Guillermo left, and now they got rid of a man who defined the sound of the first movie. I have completely lost all interest in seeing this sequel… 🙁
ramin is doing tour for game of thrones. peasano score for maze runner is great.
If the filmmakers want the same feeling as the first, this wil lbe fine.
