The Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 53rd Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing. For the past couple of years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. In the Motion Pictures – Live Action category, the scoring mixers honored include Peter Cobbin for Marvel’s Doctor Strange (feat. music by Michael Giacchino), Daniel Kresco for Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge (music by Rupert Gregson-Wiliams), Nicholai Baxter for Damien Chazelle’s La La Land (scored by Justin Hurwitz), Joel Iwataki for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (music by Michael Giacchino) and Bobby Fernandez for Clint Eastwood’s Sully (score by Christian Jacob & The Tierney Sutton Band).In the Motion Pictures – Animated category, the nominated scoring mixers are Thomas Vicari for Pixar’s Finding Dory (scored by Thomas Newman), Nick Wolllage for Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings (music by Dario Marianelli), David Boucher for Disney’s Moana (scored by Mark Mancina), Frank Wolf for Illumination Entertainment’s The Secret Life of Pets (music by Alexandre Desplat) and Joel Iwataki for Disney’s Zootopia (scored by Michael Giacchino).
