RZA has been tapped to compose the original music for the upcoming indie drama Roxanne Roxanne. The film is written and directed by Michael Larnell and stars Chanté Adams, Mahershala Ali, Nia Long, Elvis Nolasco, Kevin Phillips and Shenell Edmonds. The movie is set in the 1980s and tells the story of a 14-year-old rap prodigy from New York City’s Queensbridge Projects named Lolita Shante Gooden, who would go onto become hip hop legend Roxanne Shanté. Pharrell Williams and Forest Whitaker are producing the project with Nina Yang Bongiovi (Dope, Fruitvale Station) and Mimi Valdes. Roxanne Roxanne will premiere in competition in January at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
