Pharrell Williams announced today that he will be writing original songs for the upcoming drama Hidden Figures. The film is directed by Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) and stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner. The movie follows a trio of brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind the 1962 launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Melfi has also written the screenplay with Alison Schroeder and Lori Lakin Hutcherson. Williams is also producing the project with Melfi, Donna Gigliotti, Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping.The singer/songwriter has previously contributed songs to the Despicable Me films, as well as Paddington. Hidden Figures is set to be released on January 13, 2017 by 20th Century Fox. (Variety)
