Lionsgate announced today that Brian Tyler will be composing the music for the upcoming Power Rangers movie. The film is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. The movie follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. John Gatins (Real Steel), Burk Sharpless & Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold), Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class) and Max Landis (Chronicle) have written the screenplay. Power Rangers creator Haim Saban is producing the project with Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars, The Maze Runner). Saban’s Power Rangers just started shooting today and is set to be released on March 24, 2017 by Lionsgate.
Tyler has recently recorded his score for Lionsgate’s Now You See Me 2, which will be released this summer. The composer’s other upcoming projects also include The Disappointments Room, Criminal, as well as the documentary Under the Gun, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will air on May 14, 2016 on Epix.
I’m sure Tyler will do as great a job as Graeme Revell did on the ’95 movie.
Six writers? Jebus!
MAX LANDIS? DAFUQ?
IMHO Tyler is a very good choice for this kind of film…
@Bernd-Helmut Heine: You’re correct, Tyler is a very good choice. His generic style of action themes would fit any action. Don’t be surprised is Elfman comes in again to do ‘damage control’.
It would be nice to think Elfman would be above this kind of thing, but after “Fifty Shades Of Grey”…
