Singer/songwriter Josh Ritter has composed the music for the upcoming indie comedy drama The Hollars. The film marks the second feature directorial effort of actor John Krasinki (The Office, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men) and stars himself, alongside Anna Kendrick, Margo Martindale, Richard Jenkins, Sharlto Copley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Charlie Day. The movie follows a New York City artist who returns to his Middle America hometown on the eve of his mother’s brain surgery and. joined by his pregnant girlfriend, is forced to navigate the crazy world he left behind. Jim Strouse (Grace Is Gone, People Places Things) has written the screenplay. Krasinki is also producing the project with Tom Rice (The Way Way Back), Allyson Seeger and Ben Nearn (Mississippi Grind). The project marks Ritter’s first feature scoring assignment. The Hollars will premiere next month at the Sundance Film Festival.
