The first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi adventure The Martian confirms that Harry Gregson-Williams has been tapped to score the film. The movie is directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien, Blade Runner) and stars Matt Damon, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig, Jessica Chastain, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sebastian Stan. The film is based on Andy Weir’s 2012 e-book publication and follows an astronaut character who is stranded on Mars and must survive in a brutal environment and find a way to notify NASA that he’s still alive. Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods, Daredevil) has adapted the material for the screen. Scott is also producing the project with Simon Kinberg (Cinderella, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Fantastic Four), Michael Schaefer (Exodus: Gods and Kings), Aditya Sood (Let’s Be Cops) and Mark Huffam (Johnny English). Gregson-Williams has previously scored Scott’s 2005 epic Kingdom of Heaven and also provided additional music for the director’s Prometheus and Exodus: Gods and Kings. The Martian will be released on November 25, 2015 by 20th Century Fox. For updates on the film, visit the official movie website.
Gregson-Williams has also scored the the comedy drama Miss You Already directed by Catherine Hardwicke and starring Drew Barrymore & Toni Collette. The movie has recently been picked up by Roadside Attractions for domestic distribution.
Ridley switches composers like a woman switches shoes. i like it. gives all his films new flavor
James Mangold switches composers a lot; this is the fourth movie Scott and Gregson-Williams have worked on.
As with all Ridley Scott films, we already know that the music we’ll hear on the movie won’t be only Gregson-Williams’.
Marc Streitenfeld, perhaps?
