Two new movies are opening in wide release:
Opening in most theaters is the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Jersey Boys directed by Clint Eastwood and starring John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken. Rhino Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film and the musical written by Bob Gaudio and featuring lyrics by Bob Crewe, as well as original recordings by Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons. Also opening wide is the comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Gabrielle Union, La La Anthony, Meagan Good, Terrence J, Adam Brody, Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Walton. Epic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from and inspired by the film by Mary J. Blige. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Ride Along, Revolution) has composed the film’s original score. A score album featuring the composer’s music is set to be released by Varese Sarabande.
Opening in limited release is the drama Third Person written and directed by Paul Haggis and starring Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, Olivia Wilde, James Franco, Moran Atias, Maria Bello and Kim Basinger. The film’s original music is composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Third Person takes place in New York, Paris and Rome and follows three couples who appear to have nothing related but share deep commonalities: lovers and estranged spouses, children lost and found. Also opening in select cities is the drama Venus in Fur (La Vénus à la fourrure) directed by Roman Polanski and starring Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathieu Amalric. Alexandre Desplat who previously scored the director’s The Ghost Writer and Carnage has composed the film’s original music. Venus in Fur premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released in the U.S. by IFC Films. Another limited release this weekend is the sci-fi drama Coherence written and directed by James Ward Byrkit and starring Hugo Armstrong, Nicholas Brendon, Emily Foxler, Elizabeth Gracen, Lauren Maher, Alex Manugian, Lorene Scafaria and Maury Sterling. The film’s original music is composed by Kristin Ohrn Dyrud. MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack album for the movie on June 24, 2014. Coherence follows eight friends at a dinner party who experience a troubling chain of reality bending events on the night of an astrological anomaly. Also opening in select theaters is the French comedy Le Chef directed by Daniel Cohen and starring Jean Reno and Michaël Youn. Academy Award-winning composer Nicola Piovani (Life is Beautiful) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. Le Chef follows a veteran chef who faces off against his restaurant group’s new CEO, who wants to the establishment to lose a star from its rating in order to bring in a younger chef who specializes in molecular gastronomy. The comedy is being released in the U.S. by Cohen Media Group.
