Clinton Shorter has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Contraband. The movie is directed by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur (The Sea, 101 Reykjavik) and stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Lukas Haas, Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna and J.K. Simmons. The film is a remake of the 2008 Icelandic film Reykjavic-Rotterdam, which was produced and co-written by Kormakur who also starred in the movie. The thriller centers on a security guard and former smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. Kormakur and Wahlberg are also producing the film with Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Pride & Prejudice, United 93) and Stephen Levinson (Entourage). The project marks Shorter’s first major scoring assignment since his breakout score for the Academy Award-nominated sci-fi thriller District 9. Contraband is set to be released on March 16, 2012 by Universal Pictures.
