Ramin Djawadi has signed on to score the pilot of the upcoming HBO original series Westworld. The show is created by Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento) & Lisa Joy based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same title and stars Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton, Miranda Otto, Rodrigo Santoro, Ed Harris, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Angela Sarafyan and Simon Quarterman. The show is set at an amusement park and is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Nolan & Joy are also executive producing the Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television production with J. J. Abrams & Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) and Jerry Weintraub (Ocean’s Eleven, The Karate Kid). Djawadi is also scoring the Nolan- and Abrams-produced CBS series Person of Interest. Westworld is expected to premiere in 2015 on HBO.
Djawadi also will return to score the fifth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones next year. The composer of such films as Pacific Rim, Iron Man and Clash of the Titans also has Duncan Jones’ film adaptation of Warcraft coming up.
And I bet he’ll be doing Asimov’s Foundation too, once Jonah Nolan and HBO get it off the ground. Thankfully, guys seem to like working with each other.
