Ramin Djawadi has been hired to score the upcoming FX drama The Strain. The show is based on the vampire novel trilogy written by Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrrinth) & Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves) and stars Corey Stoll, John Hurt, Kevin Durand, Mía Maestro, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Javier Botet, Miguel Gomez, Natalie Brown, Jack Kesy, Sean Astin, Robert Maillet and Francis Capra. The horror series centers on a vampire virus that infects New York a and a CDC doctor who is called upon to investigate a viral outbreak connected to an evil strain of vampirism. Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) will serve as the showrunner. Del Toro is directing the pilot episode and is also executive producing the project with Cuse, Hogan and Gary Ungar. Djawadi has previously collaborated with Del Toro on this summer’s Pacific Rim. The Strain is being eyed for a first season of 13 episode if it will be picked up by FX.
As previously reported, Djawadi also has Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise, as well as the animated feature The House of Magic coming up. He is also currently scoring the third season of CBS’ Person of Interest and will return to score the fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Del Toro couldn’t have picked a better longtime collaborator. Looking forward to another musical excellence from Ramin!
the composer of Game of thrones, YES!!!
I really hope his soundtrack is released on disc, and that the show does EXTREMELY well, so that we get more soundtracks from the show, just like Game of Thrones and Person of Interest!
