the-signalNima Fakhrara has been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi thriller The Signal. The film is directed by William Eubank and stars Laurence Fishburne, Brenton Thwaites, Olivia Cooke, Sarah Clarke, Beau Knapp, Lin Shaye and Robert Longstreet.. The movie follows three college students who become the targets of a rival computer hacker and are being lured to an abandoned shack in the middle of the desert. Eubank has also co-written the screenplay with Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister) is producing the project for Automatik Entertainment and Tyler Davidson (Take Shelter, The Kings of Summer) is producing for Low Sparks Films. The Signal is set to premiere in January at the Sundance Film Festival.

As previously reported, Fakhrara also has Eduardo Sanchez’s horror film Exists coming up. The composer has also scored the Japanese sci-fi movie Gatchaman directed by Toya Sato and based on the anime series Battle of the Planets. The movie opened this past summer in Japan and also premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Also coming up for Fakhrara is the Site 146. The movie marks the directorial debut of writer/producer Gregory Levasseur (Piranha 3D, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes) and stars Denis O’Hare, Ashley Hinshaw and James Buckley. The movie follows a group of U.S. archaeologists who get lost in the catacombs of a pyramid in the Egyptian desert. Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, High Tension) is among the producers of the Fox International production. Site 146 is expected to be released in 2014.
