Disney announced today that Dave Metzger (Brother Bear 2, Tarzan & Jane, Tarzan 2: The Legend Begins) is scoring the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming feature Wish. It was also announced that Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice has joined Julia Michaels to write the original songs for the movie directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn and starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine and Alan Tudyk. The musical comedy follows a sharp-witted idealist who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force – a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Peter Del Vecho (The Princess and the FrogRaya and the Last Dragon) and Juan Pablo Reyes is co-producing the project. Metzger has previously served as an arranger and orchestrator on the Buck-directed films Tarzan, Frozen and Frozen II. Wish will be released in theaters nationwide on November 22, 2023 by Walt Disney Pictures.

  1. Ryder says:

Dave came a very long way from those straight to DVD sequels to score a big budgeted Disney movie, this is great

  2. Joey says:

Got to say, I at first was not thinking this was a good choice, suggesting either James Newton Howard or Christophe Beck, but after looking at his résumé, I am feeling confident that this will be great.

  3. Sam Whitacre says:

Come on, Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams should score Disney’s Wish! But why even bother?

    • William Morrison says:

      Why “should” they?

Why not let another composer have a chance and get their big break?

Furthermore, neither of them are part of the regular “stable” of Disney composers. They were likely never in the running to begin with.
