Mark Korven (The Witch, The Lighthouse, Cube, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Them, The Terror: Infamy) has composed the original music for the upcoming horror thriller The Black Phone. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and stars Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and James Ransone. The movie is based on the short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts and follows a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement, where he discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims through a disconnected phone on the wall. Derrickson also co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister). They are both also producing the Blumhouse production with Jason Blum (Get Out, The Invisible Man, Halloween). The Black Phone will be released in theaters nationwide on June 24 by Universal Pictures.
Korven’s other recent projects include the Epix series Billy the Kid, which will finish its first season run this coming Sunday June 5, and Chapelwaite, which has been renewed for a second season.

Based on his IMDb page, he’s working on two horror movies right now, so he has no problem with work. Perhaps the reason may be, that Derrickson and Young partnership is over.
