Rob Simonsen (Ghostbusters: AfterlifeThe Way Back, Foxcatcher, (500) Days of Summer, The Age of Adeline, Nerve) has recently been recording his score for the upcoming psychological drama The Whale. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler) and stars Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, Samantha Morton, Hong Chau and Ty Simpkins. The movie is Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name and centers on a reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity and his attempts to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter. Aronofsky is also producing the project through his Protozoa Pictures company, alongside Ari Handel (Jackie) and Jeremy Dawson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs). The Whale is expected to be released in theaters this year by A24.

As previously reported, Simonsen also has Shawn Levy’s Netflix film The Adam Project (premiering on March 11) coming up.
