Jonathan Sanford (Teenage Bounty Hunters, Good on Paper, Dare Me, Social Distance) has been tapped to score the upcoming sports drama National Champions. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Angel Has Fallen, Shot Caller, Greenland) and stars Stephan James, J. K. Simmons, Alexander Ludwig, Uzo Aduba, Timothy Olyphant, Andrew Bachelor, David Koechner, Tim Blake Nelson, Jeffrey Donovan, Kristin Chenoweth and Lil Rel Howery. The movie tells the story of a star quarterback who ignites a player’s strike 72 hours before the biggest game of the year to fight for fair compensation, equality, and respect for the athletes who put their bodies and health on the line for their schools. Adam Mervis (21 Bridges) wrote the screenplay based on his play of the same name. Basil Iwanyk (John Wick, Sicario, Clash of the Titans) and Brendon Boyea (Voyagers) are producing the Thunder Road production. National Champions is currently scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on November 24, 2021 by STXfilms.

Sanford also has the indie drama On Our Way written and directed by Sophie Lane Curtis and starring Micheàl Richardson, Keith Powers, James Badge Dale, Jordana Brewster, Paul Ben Victor and Ruby Modine coming up. The movie follows a deeply troubled filmmaker as he battles a voice inside his head while making his first film. Siena Oberman (Mainstream, The Birthday Cake) is producing the project for Artemis Pictures, alongside Adam G. Simon and Andrea Bucko for Boxcar Pictures. No word yet on a premiere date for the film.
