Opening nationwide today is the action fantasy movie Mortal Kombat directed by Simon McQuoid and starring Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, Chin Han and Hiroyuki Sanada. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (ItBlade Runner 2049, Hidden Figures, Shazam!Annabelle CreationLights Out). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last week. Check out our previous news article for the full album details and to learn more about the movie, which is being released by Warner Bros. Pictures and is available premiering on HBO Max today.

Also opening nationwide this week is the Japanese animated feature Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train directed by Haruo Sotozaki and starring Natsuki Hanae, Akari Kito, Hiro Shimono, Satoshi Hino, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Daisuke Hirakawa, Abby Trott, Aleks Le, Zach Aguilar and Bryce Papenbrook. Yuki Kajiura & Go Shiina have composed the film’s original music. The movie, which is based on the shōnen manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge, broke local box office records when it opened in Japanese theaters last year and is being distributed in the U.S. by FUNimation.

Opening semi-wide in around 600 theaters is the comedy Together Together written and directed by Nikole Beckwith and starring Ed Helms, Patti Harrison, Tig Notaro, Julio Torres, Timm Sharp, Anna Konkle, Evan Jonigkeit, Rosalind Chao, Sufe Bradshaw and Greta Titelman. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Somers (Honey Boy, Captain FantasticMiss Americana, Dawson City: Frozen Time, AlohaCharm City Kings). No word on a soundtrack release. Opening on VOD today is the horror thriller Bloodthirsty directed by Amelia Moses and starring Lauren Beatty, Greg Bryk, Michael Ironside, Katherine King So and Judith Buchan. Michelle Osis (Juggernaut, Harpoon, Knuckleball) has composed the film’s original score. Arts & Crafts Productions has released a soundtrack EP featuring the songs from the movie by singer/songwriter and co-writer Lowell. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Netflix next Friday, April 30, is the animated feature The Mitchells vs. The Machines directed by  Mike Rianda and starring Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Eric Andre and Olivia Colman. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, The Croods: A New Age, 21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). Check out our previous article for more information about the movie, which as originally set to be released in theaters nationwide last year by Sony Pictures (under the title Connected) and will have a limited theatrical release before its debut on Netflix next week.
