Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated sequel The Croods: A New Age directed by Joel Crawford and starring Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Mann, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, Cloris Leachman, Peter Dinklage and Kelly Marie Tran. The film’s original score is composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: RagnarokTHE LEGO Movie,  21/22 Jump StreetHotel Transylvania). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Feel The Thunder performed by HAIM. Opening in select theaters and on VOD this week is the biographical drama Stardust co-written and directed by Gabriel Range and starring Johnny Flynn, Jena Malone, Marc Maron, Anthony Flanagan, Aaron Poole, Derek Moran, Julian Richings and Monica Parker. Anne Nikitin (American Animals, CalibreThis Beautiful Fantastic, Lost Girls, The Pale Horse) has composed the film’s original score. No word on a soundtrack release. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD this week is the documentary Zappa directed by Alex Winter about the private life of Frank Zappa. The film’s original score is composed by John Frizzell (Alien: ResurrectionOffice SpaceDante’s Peak, Gods and Generals, Legion, The Following). Universal Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Zappa, The Mothers of Invention, Alice Coopers & others today and a 3-CD set and vinyl edition is set to come out in early 2021. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the drama Princess of the Row co-written and directed by Van Maximilian Carlson and starring Edi Gathegi, Tayler Buck, Ana Ortiz, Martin Sheen, Jacob Vargas, Tabitha Brow and Jenny Gago. Julian Scherle (Let’s Be Evil, DisruptedPause, Hudson) has composed the film’s original music. Scissors has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters this week before premiering on Netflix on December 18 is the drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom directed by George C. Wolfe and starring Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Michael Potts, Dusan Brown and Taylour Paige. The film’s original music is composed by Branford Marsalis (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Once in the Life). Premiering today exclusively on Amazon Prime is the drama Life in a Year directed by Mitja Okorn and starring Jaden Smith, Cara Delevingne, Cuba Gooding Jr., Chris D’Elia and Nia Long. Rupert Parkes (aka Photek) (How to Get Away with Murder, Station 19, Mosul) has composed the film’s original score.
