Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Nerve, Foxcatcher, The Upside, (500) Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now) is reuniting with director Julia Hart on the upcoming Disney+ original movie Stargirl. The film is based on Jerry Spinelli’s best-selling YA novel and stars Grace VanderWaal in the title role, alongside Graham Verchere,Giancarlo Esposito, Karan Brar, Darby Stanchfield and Maximiliano Hernandez. The movie follows Leo Borlock who, in a world where the spaces grow bigger even as they get smaller, meets Stargirl Caraway, a bright, authentic light who breaks through the sea of teenage confusion. Kristin Hahn (Dumplin’, Cake) wrote the original screenplay and is also producing the project with The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein & Lee Stollman (The Maze Runner, Life of Crime). Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) serves as an executive producer. Simonsen has previously scored Hart’s first two features, Miss Stevens and Fast Color. Stargirl is set to premiere on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+, which is set to launch this November.
