Parlaphone France has released a soundtrack album for the French TV series Vernon Subutex. The album features a selection of songs from the show by artists such as The Modern Lovers, Wreckless Eric, Spacemen 3, Les Thugs, Wall of Voodoo, Mudhoney, Karen Dalton, Sonic Youth, Janis Joplin, New Order, Ramones & others. The soundtrack is now available in French music stores (visit the French iTunes store to listen to audio samples). No word yet on a domestic release. Vernon Subutex is directed by Cathy Verney and stars Romain Duris, Céline Sallette, Laurent Lucas, Philippe Rebbot, Florence Thomassin and Athaya Mokonzi. The series is inspired by the bestselling novels by Virginie Despentes, a bestseller in France which was crying out for a small screen adaptation and follows a now-unemployed, former record shop owner who gets evicted and reaches out to former contacts still involved in the music industry and becomes a wanted man after a night with rock star. The drama is premiering in France on Canal + today.
