Ian Hultquist (Assassination Nation, Animals, My Blind Brother, A-X-L) & Drum & Lace (aka Sofia Hultquist) are teaming up to compose the music for the upcoming Apple TV+ original series Dickinson. The show is created by Alena Smith and stars Hailee Steinfeld in the title role, alongside Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt and Adrian Enscoe. The comedy centers on 1800s poet Emily Dickinson and explores the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn’t fit in to her own time through her imaginative point of view. Smith is also executive producing the project with Alex Goldstone (Adult World), Michael Sugar (Spotlight, 13 Reasons Why), Ashley Zalta, Darlene Hunt (The Big C) and David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Halloween) who also serves as director on the series. Dickinson will premiere later this year on Apple’s new streaming service, which is set to launch this fall.

Ian & Sofia Hultquist have previously co-scored several documentaries including The Gospel According to André, The First Monday in May and Love & Bananas, as well as the upcoming At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal, which will premiere next month at the Tribeca Film Festival before premiering later this year on HBO. Ian Hultquist has also recently scored the CNN docu-series Tricky Dick, which premiered earlier this month and currently airs every Sunday night. The composer has also composed the music for the Natalia Dyer-starring comedy drama Yes, God, Yes, which just premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
