The only new movie opening nationwide this weekend is the slasher thriller Halloween co-written and directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Virginia Gardner and Nick Castle. The film’s original music is composed by John CarpenterCody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Sacred Bones Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in limited release is the coming-of-age comedy drama Mid90s written and directed by Jonah Hill and starring Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges, Na-kel Smith, Gio Galicia, Ryder McLaughlin, Alexa Demie, Katherine Waterston and Olan Prenatt. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social NetworkGone GirlThe Girl with the Dragon TattooPatriots Day) have composed the film’s original score. Also opening in limited release is the comedy drama Can You Ever Forgive Me? directed by Marielle Heller and starring Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant. The film’s original music is composed by Nate Heller who previously scored the director’s The Diary of a Teenage Girl. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Jeri Southern, Blossom Dearie, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, Patti Page, Tank and the Bangas, Pixies & more has been released last week. Also opening in select theaters this week is the drama What They Had written and directed by Elizabeth Chomko and starring Hilary Swank, Michael Shannon, Blythe Danner, Robert Forster, Taissa Farmiga and Josh Lucas. Danny Mulhern has composed the film’s original music. Music.Film Recordings and Varèse Sarabande have released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select cities is the drama Wildlife co-written and directed by Paul Dano and starring Carey Mulligan, Ed Oxenbould, Bill Camp and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film’s original score is composed by David Lang (Youth). No word on a soundtrack release. Another limited release this week is the indie comedy An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn co-written and directed by Jim Hosking and stars Aubrey Plaza, Emile Hirsch, Craig Robinson and Jemaine Clement. Andrew Hung (The Greasy Strangler) has composed the film’s original music. Lex Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally today. A vinyl version will be coming out in December. Also opening in limited release is the drama Galveston directed by Melanie Laurent and starring Elle Fanning, Ben Foster, Beau Bridges, Lili Reinhart and Robert Aramayo. The film’s original music is composed by Marc Chouarain (Breathe (Respire), Serial (Bad) Weddings, Josephine) and Eugenie Jacobson. Also opening in select cities is the horror thriller Malicious written and directed by Michael Winnick and starring Bojana Novakovic, Josh Stewart, Melissa Bolona, Yvette Yates and Delroy Lind. Jeff Cardoni (Mike and Dave Need Wedding DatesSilicon ValleyCSI: MiamiYoung SheldonStep Up All In) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the thriller The Super directed by Stephan Rick, written by John J. McLaughlin and starring Val Kilmer, Patrick John Flueger, Louisa Krause, Mattea Conforti and Taylor Richardson. The film’s original music is composed by Jens Grötzschel & Stefan Schulzki who have previously collaborated with Rick on several of his previous projects.
