The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the horror thriller Insidious: The Last Key directed by Adam Robitel, written by Leigh Whannell, produced by Jason Blum and starring Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Josh Stewart, Caitlin Gerard, Kirk Acevedo, Javier Botet, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke and Tessa Ferrer. The film’s original music is composed by Joseph Bishara (The Conjuring, Annabelle, Dark Skies) who previously scored the first three installments in the series. Opening in limited release is the horror movie Day of the Dead: Bloodline directed by Hèctor Hernández Vicens and starring Johnathon Schaech, Sophie Skelton, Marcus Vanco and Jeff Gum. Frederik Wiedmann (Field of Lost Shoes, Dying of the Light, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Hangman) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which is set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled world where a former med school student is tormented by a dark figure from her past, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Saban Films.

Also opening in limited release is the action thriller Stratton directed by Simon West and starring Dominic Cooper, Austin Stowell, Gemma Chan, Thomas Kretschmann, Tyler Hoechlin, Tom Felton, Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi. The film’s original music is composed by Nathaniel Mechaly (Taken series, Colombiana, Shut In, Taxi Brooklyn). The movie, which follows a Special Boat Service operative for MI6, and his American counterpart, who scope a laboratory complex in Iran in order to intercept deadly biochemical weapons, is being released by Momentum Pictures and is now also available on VOD.

Also opening in select theaters is the horror thriller The Devil’s Gate directed by Clay Staub and starring Milo Ventimiglia, Shawn Ashmore, Bridget Regan, Amanda Schull, Jonathan Frakes and Javier Botet. Keefus Ciancia (As Above, So Below, Diana, The Motel Life, Nashville) has composed the film’s original music. The movie, which examines the disappearance of a local woman and her young son in the small town of Devil’s Gate, North Dakota, is being released in theaters and on VOD by IFC Midnight.
