The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is the comedy Just Getting Started written and directed by Ron Shelton and starring Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones, Rene Russo, Joe Pantoliano, Glenne Headley, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Elizabeth Ashley, George Wallace, Graham Beckel and Jane Seymour. The film’s original music is composed by Alex Wurman (March of the PenguinsTalladega NightsAnchormanThe Newsroom). Opening in New York and Los Angeles before expanding nationwide in January is the comedy drama I, Tonya  directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, Julianne Nicholson, Paul Walter Hauser and Bobby Cannavale. Peter Nashel (The Deep EndBee SeasonMarco PoloThe Night Listener) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Cliff Richard, Bad Company, Doris Day, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Violent Femmes & more. Also opening in limited release and on VOD is the drama The Pirates of Somalia written and directed by Bryan Buckley and starring Evan Peters, Barkhad Abdi, Melanie Griffith and Al Pacino. The film’s original music is composed by Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau (Anchorman: The Legend Continues, Casa De Mi Padre, The House, The Bronze). No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie based on the book The Pirates of Somalia of the same title by Jay Bahadur tells the true story of the rookie journalist who forms a half-baked plan to embed himself among the pirates of Somalia. The film is being released by Echo Bridge.

Opening in Los Angeles and other markets following a release in New York and on VOD last week is the coming-of-age drama The Tribes of Palos Verdes directed by Emmett & Brendan Malloy and starring Maika Monroe, Jennifer Garner, Milo Gibson, Elisabeth Rohm, Goran Visnjic, Justin Kirk, Noah Silver, Joely Fisher and Stevie Lynn Jones. Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback MountainBabelThe Motorcycle Diaries) has composed the film’s original score. Brushfire Records has released a soundtrack album featuring three tracks from the composer’s score, as well as songs by Jack Johnson, Bahamas, Cherry Glazerr, Braden Miller & more. Also opening in select cities is the romantic drama November Criminals co-written and directed by Sacha Gervasi and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Ansel Elgort, Catherine Keener and David Strathairn. The film’s original music is composed by David Norland who previously scored Gervasi’s Anvil: The Story of Anvil. The movie follows a pair of college-bound friends who find themselves falling for one another, but after the mysterious murder of their classmate, they defy the authorities to uncover the truth. The drama is being released by Vertical Entertainment and is now also available on VOD.

Another limited release this week is the action thriller Bullet Head written and directed by Paul Solet and starring Adrien Brody, John Malkovich, Antonio Banderas and Rory Culkin. Austin Wintory (Journey video game, Captain Abu Raed, A Little Help) who previously scored Solet’s Grace and Dark Summer has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie revolves around three career criminals who trap themselves in a warehouse with the law closing in, and run into the attack dog named De Niro. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Lionsgate Premiere.
