Tyler Bates has been tapped to score the upcoming superhero comedy sequel Deadpool 2. The film is directed by David Leitch and stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role, Josh Brolin as Cable, as well as Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, Shioli Kutsuna, Julian Dennison, Eddie Marsan, Zazie Beetz and Jack Kesy. Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Zombieland) who scripted the original movie wrote the screenplay. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian), Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men, Logan) and Reynolds return as the project’s producers. Bates has previously collaborated with Leitch on the first John Wick movie and this year’s Atomic Blonde. The original Deadpool movie directed by Tim Miller was scored by Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg). Deadpool 2 will be released on June 1, 2018 by 20th Century Fox.

Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy300WatchmenDawn of the Dead) also has Marvel’s Netflix series The Punisher (set to premiere on November 17), Emilio Estevez’s drama The Public, as well as the action thriller 24 Hours to Live (to be released on November 3 on Ultra VOD and in select theaters on December 1) coming up. He also continues to score Fox’s The Exorcist and AT&T Audience Network’s Kingdom.

  1. Ben says:

This guy is everywhere! His score should be more interesting than Junkie XL’s for the first film.

  2. Solaris says:

Ever since “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” came out, I’m confident in Bates delivering – well, as long as he brings his team of orchestrators along, that is…

  3. Roger says:

damn. did junkie get blackballed or something? he was taken off justice league, isnt doing deadpool 2 and i think is off godzilla 2

    • Michael says:

Well, he started his career by replacing other composers and seems like people are tired of Junkie doing the same kind of scores. Plus Deadpool 2’s director worked with Tyler Bates before, Justice League was changed when Joss Whedon took over, and Godzilla 2 still doesn’t have a composer confirmed.

      • Justin Boggan says:

I’m the Rejected Film Scores website guy (currently the site is offline).

I’m looking at his IMDb credits as Composer and I don’t see anything starting off his career replacing composers until 2015, “run All Night” — almost 17 years after his first scoring credit. Total I only see two films on his Composers section credits where he replaced somebody else. Maybe you are thinking about Zimmer or Balfe.

  4. Vik says:

He was never on Godzilla 2 and walked off himself from Deadpool 2 with the director of the first one.
