It was announced today at Disney’s D23 Expo that Michael Giacchino will be providing the score for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Coco. In addition, Kristen Anderson-Lopez Bobby Lopez (Frozen) have written the original song Remember Me for the movie directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) &  Adrian Molina and featuring the voices of Gael García Bernal, Anthony Gonzalez, Benjamin Bratt and Renée Victor. The movie follows Miguel who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz and finds himself in the Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. There will be also be additional additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco (Dope) and Molina. Giacchino has previously scored several projects for Pixar, including Up, Inside Out, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Cars 2. He will also be returning for the studio’s The Incredibles 2. Coco will be released on November 22, 2017 by Walt Disney Pictures. Visit the official movie website for updates.

    He’s like the Alan Menken of Pixar(except Michael only does the score), because he did music(scores) for a handful of Pixar films

      I guess Randy Newman deserves more the title of “Alan Menken of Pixar” than Giacchino. Not only he did more Pixar movies than Giacchino (8 for Newman, 6 for MG, including Coco), but also he wrote songs for almost all of them (with the exception of Cars, Monsters University and Cars 3).

    Curious why they had to keep this piece of info under wraps for so long. As much as I adore the composer’s music, I don’t see how this kind of revelations could be considered a big deal.
